Golf Course Mechanic

Position Overview

Fox Den Golf Course in Stow, Ohio is seeking an experienced Golf Course Mechanic to join its Turf Team on a full-time, salaried basis. If you enjoy working in a casual golf environment in a beautiful setting, as part of a successful team, we would like to hear from you.

The Mechanic reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and works independently to repair and maintain the course's gasoline and diesel-powered maintenance equipment and the golf cart fleet. The Mechanic also assists with the maintenance program and warranty work, with safety procedures as a top priority.

Primary Job Description and Essential Duties

Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Mechanic works independently in the repair and maintenance of the course's gasoline and diesel-powered maintenance equipment and the golf cart fleet. The Mechanic also assists in the maintenance program and warranty work, and keeps safety procedures a top priority.

1. Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent.
2. Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts and repairs mechanical defects and failures in the various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment on a regular basis.
3. Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work around daily course operations.
4. Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed.
5. Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on heavy and light mowing equipment, including sharpening and reel adjustment.
6. Keeps maintenance equipment fueled, oiled and inspected, and performs related tasks as required.
7. Keeps up with the preventive maintenance schedule (oil, grease, air, gas, etc.) and maintains service and repair records for each piece of equipment.
8. Inspects equipment on the course and makes field repairs when equipment breaks down during play or maintenance.
9. Assists in the daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment.
10. Maintains a clean and safe work environment and a well-organized parts inventory, and orders parts and supplies as needed.
11. Follows proper recycling and disposal procedures for oils, compounds and other fluids.
12. Develops and maintains awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, and follows safe work practices.
13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two years of equipment repair experience
• Valid driver's license
• Working knowledge of the general operation of gasoline and diesel powered equipment
• Mechanical ability and the ability to use common mechanical tools
• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees

Preferred

• Experience maintaining golf course or turf equipment, including reel mowers and golf carts
• Technical or vocational training, or certification in small engine or equipment maintenance
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and specifications

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The employee must be able to do the following:

• Frequently sit, stand, bend, and use hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk or hear
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk
• Lift up to 50 lbs., lift overhead, push and pull, and move lighter objects

Work is performed in the equipment shop and outdoors on the golf course. The employee:

• Is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, moderate cold and extreme heat
• Is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and motorized equipment vibration
• Works in a moderate noise level
